Summer or Winter: When to go?
Hiking, biking, climbing and high-Alpine tours are the popular activities in summer and autumn. The 4000 meters attract annually more climbers. But the 400 km of hiking trails also allows visitors to discover quietly the beauty of the mountain around Zermatt. The rack railway takes you from Zermatt to the Gornergrat peak at 3089 meters. From there you will discover a breathtaking view of the Matterhorn, the glaciers and the Monte Rose massif. The highest cable car in Europe takes you to 3883 m high and allows you to discover a fascinating panorama of the Matterhorn (4478m) and the Swiss, Italian and French Alps. 15 meters below the surface of the glacier, you can admire the ice palace. In winter, the ski area whose snow is assured offers 360 km of tracks in three very different areas: the Sunnegga-Rothorn, Gornergrat-Stockhorn, Black Lake and Matterhorn glacier paradise. Snowboarders and freestylers find their happiness in Zermatt Snowpark which also train the Olympics candidates. And, if you like to change, you can try paragliding or heli-skiing outside the prepared ski slopes, accompanied by an experienced mountain guide.
